JOAN JETT BLAKK BENEFIT SHIRTS

In the 1990s, Joan Jett Blakk (Terence Smith) ran four political campaigns, twice for mayor (Chicago and San Francisco, respectively) and twice for president on the Queer Nation Party ticket. A radical black drag queen with a staunch, activist agenda, Blakk’s campaigns increased the visibility of and political potential for marginalized voices in the political arena. Recently, Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight) penned a play about Blakk’s activism, but Terence Smith, the play’s subject, finds himself facing the harsh realities of San Francisco’s housing crisis.

Bolstering a recent GoFundMe and hot on the heels of Blakk’s Queer |Art Prize for Sustained Achievement, we’re bringing photographer Marc Geller’s iconic 1995 campaign poster back into circulation with an officially licensed, limited line of tees. 100% of the proceeds benefit Terence Smith and his search for housing.
